Slacking...

The other day my husband told me I should make videos of the DIY stuff I do or when i'm creating my paintings. I then had to explain that half the time I do all this stuff by myself over time. Not like a week but sometimes i'll work on something for like a month.Yet there are some things I knock in a couple hours. I also do not own a tripod nor is my "art room" set up for me to film anything. Basically I'm just making stuff as I have time or materials and then I come back afterwards and write about it on here.

Lately i've been slacking though. I have painting i've been working on for months. I started calling it "Black Girl Magic" and I have no idea when i'll be done with it. I just keep adding layers and staring at it for a few days. Yet this year I have given myself the goal of completing 10 paintings.
This will be interesting. . .

Emotional Baggage

This lovely creation was something I started WAAAYYYY back when I was still attending Towson. The idea behind it was as human we carry so much around with us but no one can see it because its not physical but emotional. SO, I created a skirt to show all the stuff we hold on to, most of which is garbage anyway, hints why I used giant trach bags.....
In class explaining the concept...

A classmate was lovely enough to model it for my while I explained...

Home, after I finished the skirt...

Made of trach bags, newspaper, various tapes, spray paint...

About A Year ago......

Its been a year since I grauated from Towson University. How time flies! The other day I realized I never posted my AWESOME grauation cap that I customized or as some say Leni-er-rized. lol

I always knew i'd decorate my cap for grauation but not until the day before did I finally come up with an idea/design I was happy with. I went with a pin-up girl with this kind of trippy design that I tend to always come back to. This cap is one of the few things ive done, art wise, that I have no reqrets and no changes id want to make. Maybe in the future i'll decorate caps for other people as well.

JUNK Heels : The Beginning

These babies right here were a random idea that one day I just decided to attempt. I had this old pair of black pumps that were basically trash, i'd wore them as far as they could go and had no real use for them. Then one day as I saw them laying on my floor next to my "junk box" I got an idea, what if I just creat a piece of wearable art out of those shoes and this box of crap. After a little sorting and prep these JUNK heels were born. I finished them just in time to wear to an on camous MOD show at Towson University. They got rave reviews from everyone that saw them.

They consist of candy, empty paint tubes, paint, beads, broken jewlery, buttons, beads, and other random things ive picked up through out

Screen Print VI: My Poster

The final screen print I did ended up deviating from the "portrait" series. I decided to make a poster tha could be used for my growing collection of dresses. I named this collection Salvation Couture. As I was printing the monotypes the image changed and colors mixed and by the end I couldnt choose a favorite so I kept them all.

The First Monotype

Second Monotype

Third Monotype, changed the colors

Forth Monotype, at this point things go a lil messy

Screen Print V: Nova

This is Nove a.k.a Chris. I remember when he showed up at TU with his "Bolt Hawk" skinny and skinny jeans. Stephann found him at the BSU cookout and the rest is history. On this particular night in this particular picture I just told him "you know I love you right, like you know if these hoes are bothering you or if they bother you in Cali, I know you wont fight a girl but I drop her for you." Or well I said something along the lines of that lol

Screen Print II: Stephen

The original crappy one & the revised good one.
This print was a "portrait" of my Bestie Stephen.
Took this right after I gave him that friendship bracelet.

Layer 1

layers 1-3

When I realized these were gonna be terrible but needed to finsh them anyway.

After being told tp re-do the print, I decided to make and additional layer.
The additonal layer I added had a message to Stephen that I was too embrassed to say to him at the time. It was really personal and full of meaning but in the design of this particular print you can't actually read the meaagae. It becomes more of a pattern then a message.

Finished Series, Pt 2

Summertime Fine.

Just some things that I experimented with this summer. I wanted to explore a few things I never had time to try while I was in school and expand on other ideas I had started.

Staring some heels, A 3D wall hanging in progress, Plastic Bag Experiments, Wine Glass Painting
Used duct tape to make tiger trips for my Bestie's horn.
Shirt Dress I made out of my Daddys old dress shirt. Heels in progress.
Clutch made of old coin wrappers. Junk Clutch
Took the fake hair and made a dress. Yea its weird, but a good experiment.
